Vigils held outside Downing Street for ex-Prime Minister Yukub

Note from the editor: the events team gave me this article to publish, so don't put this shite on me.

Several people have been leading a vigil outside of Downing Street for the recently resigned Prime Minister Yukub.

The Yukubites, as they have called themselves, have been big fans of the Dorset M.P. for a while and have been avidly campaigning for him on online forums. They typically have smurf avatars and also commonly use the phrase ‘We Dem Bois’ when conversing with each other.

Many of the Yukubites have been in despair since his announcement to resign as Prime Minister. It came as a shock to many who were hoping that he would have another successful term as the leader of the country. Following a short leadership contest, Yukub was replaced as Prime Minister by Conservative stalwart Brain. Yukub has also recently shocked many by leaving the Conservative Party and joining new party Coalition!

Since Yukub departed 10 Downing Street, many Yukubites have been in vigil outside of his former home. Dressed in formal funeral attire and with painted blue faces, emotions have run high at the vigil. The Yukubites have made a small shrine to the former Prime Minister just outside of the gates to Downing Street, with candles being relit every hour in honour of his term.

Speaking during the vigil, organiser Amelia Rhodes, a student at Loughborough University, says being here is the only thing she can do following Yukub’s resignation.

She said: “I remember when I saw the news that Yukub was resigning on Twitter. It was devastating. I spent hours in the bathroom just crying.

“I wasn’t the only one and we had to do something to properly grieve something that was so special. That’s why we are here.

“We want to show how special Yukub was to all of us and how he inspired us all to do better with our lives. We need to show how we are all dem bois and use this vigil to mark the end of this fantastic premiership.”

When asked how long the vigil would last, Amelia said “until the last Yukubite was ready to move on.”
