Poll conducted in the Melbourne Electorate on the 24th of May 2020

At current, The Independent predict an SDP gain from IND.

The by-election was triggered by the resignation of former SDP member, now an independent, MerrilyPutrid. This electorate is often held by the left, however we saw it flip at the 15th General Election to the Nationals, before returning the left at the most recent General Election.

The leader of the Social Democratic Party was unavailable to comment on the comment, however the Deputy Leader of the SDP, mikiboss told the Independent when asked about the gap between NeatSaucer and UquartTarikin:

"Well as the old saying goes, the only poll which truly matters in on election day. Ultimately, I feel we have a very good shot at it, but I am not counting any chickens tonight. I do think however that poll will come as a relief to NeatSaucer, who has put a lot of effort into this race."

The SDP Candidate for Melbourne, NeatSaucer was able to tell the Independent, on this polling gap:

"So when you told me that I am leading, I was pretty shocked and awe struck to be honest. Whether my opponents will make the gain or not, is something I do not answer for, since democracy is unpredictable.  The Poll also shows, that currently, the people are believing in the message of the SDP. We may be leading, but this election is far from over, and I promise to continue to dedicate myself to the people of Melbourne, to provide a strong, progressive voice in parliament."

The Independent approached independent candidate about the by-election, MalooFury, to which they said

"Hopefully I win I guess that’d be pretty epic"

The Independent was unable to get a comment from the Leader of the Liberal National Party, however Griffo, Member for Cowper was able to tell us

"I believe that the people of Melbourne will return to their common sense roots when they elected the Nationals in January and will vote for common sense economic, COVID-19 and climate change solutions. This is an early poll and as we know, the only poll that counts is the one on Election Day. You only have to look at the past two elections for that."

The Independent could not reach UrquatTarkin, LNP candidate for Melbourne for a statement.

The Leader of the Australian Democrats was unavailable for comment, however senior member, Jayden Williamson told the Independent, when told about their position in the polling:

I believe that the Australian Democrats are set to bring great things, and I would hope the people of Melbourne would see that. Obviously, we are going up against 2 major parties here, so it will be hard to win this seat, but I am confident Deladi0 can bring his skillset to the table. There is still a while until the election and Deladi0 will be more and more around the people of Melbourne both in person and online, obviously whilst staying COVIDSafe.

The Independent were unable to reach Deladi0, AD candidate for Melbourne for a statement.
