Exclusive: CheckMyBrain11 and Model-David to face off for Tory leadership in second round
CheckMyBrain11 and Model-David are due to face off in the second round of the Conservative Party leadership election, after LastBlueHero and Ctrlaltlama were both knocked out.
In exclusive results obtained by the Independent, CheckMyBrain11 topped the poll of the first round, held using Single Transferable Vote, obtaining 17 first preference votes. LastBlueHero was tied for last with RON, and was knocked out after the redistribution of second preferences, with 4 votes. Ctrlaltlama soon followed, falling just a single vote behind David, with 10 to David's 11, securing the Cambridgeshire MP's entry to the second round.
While CheckMyBrain11 is widely considered to the favourite to win the election to succeed outgoing Prime Minister Yukub, the unexpectedly strong performance by Model-David is likely to give many within the Conservative Party pause.
Ctraltlama will be bring his campaign to a close by having a meeting with the Conservative Friends of Israel, before return back to his London flat. It is understood at the event he plans to thank several factions who have supported him. It is also understood he does not intend to endorse anyone for the second round until the final debate has been held.
Likewise, LastBlueHero has also declined to make a second round endorsement, but it is unknown if this will change after the second debate.
CheckMyBrain11, when contacted for comment, had this to say on his first round victory; "I’d like to preface by saying that the Conservative Party will thrive no matter the outcome; David’s electric campaign style and ability to inspire many of his peers is evident. That being said, I like my odds in this race, as well as my ability to unify the party after winning. David and I are close and in regular contact, and we largely share a vision for a stronger party."
The Independent also contacted Model-David for comment.
